The Community Improvement Contest is a two year project and covers a period from March 1, 2010, to April 30, 2012. The entries will be judged by the GFWC State Community Improvement Chairman, postmarked by March 1, 2012. The state’s first place entry is sent to GFWC, postmarked by April 1, 2012.

Each and every club in Massachusetts does a Community Improvement project. Even when a project seems small, if it meets a need in your community by helping to make your city and town a better place to live, it qualifies; so please consider entering your projects for consideration on the state level.

Some tips for getting started on those winning entries are:

First identify and define a project for your community.

Create a process for choosing the project.

Set up an action plan on how the club will engage community support.

Work out with the club how the club will finance the project and obtain media support.

The preliminary work is a key factor in having a successful community project. The support of club members is important.  Make sure the project is one that everyone can be excited about and have a part in.  Maximize each member’s unique skills and talents. There will be plenty of jobs to go around when looking for and completing a community improvement project. Skills such as: solicitation, marketing, coordinating, accurate records/paperwork and all around people skills.

I will soon be receiving very specific information concerning dates, judging criteria and awards which is important for me as the GFWC of Massachusetts Community Improvement Chairman.  Any questions or concerns that you may have can be directed to me and I will do my best to answer and help you with your Community Improvement Projects. If you have a Community Improvement Chairman in your club, I would love to have her contact information so that I can send her important updates as I receive them.

All entries must be postmarked by March 1, 2012 to:
